The 9th International Symposium on Asian Vertebrate species diversity (AVIS 9)

From September 23rd to 27th , 2019, the 9th International Symposium on Asian Vertebrate species diversity (AVIS 9) was taken place in University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University (HUAF). The Symposium attracted over 50 scientists from 10 Asian countries.
This symposium has been organized every year since 2011 in Asian countries as China, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Laos. In Vietnam, the 3rd symposium was held in Hanoi in 2013, and this 9th symposium is organized in Hue.

Kyoto University was established in 1897 and has a long tradition in field-based vertebrate species diversity research. This symposium is based on a 3-year JSPS Core-to-Core program (FY 2017-2019) “Sustainable Asian Vertebrate Species Diversity Network and Young Researcher Development” that aims to develop network for Asian vertebrate species diversity research and involves 8 core countries: Japan, China, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

At the opening ceremony, Prof.Dr.Masaharu Motokawa shared: “I hope that AVIS 9 in Hue will achieve its functions in making active discussion and exchange of ideas, deepening and developing collaborations for species diversity research in Asia”. In addition, he highly appreciated the members of organizing committee and collaboration from HUAF.

At the symposium, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Van An - Rector of HUAF expressed his pleasure when HUAF was very pound to participate in this program. HUAF was founded in 1967, it has taken a key role serving as a center for higher education, research and technology transfer in forestry, agriculture, and fisheries of Central and Central Highland Vietnam. Hence, HUAF is urgently required to have more proactive academic innovation and advancement in the part of research development and collaboration.

The symposium was a chance for young Asian vertebrate researches to discuss, present, update the new data advance technology methodology. “I hope that this symposium will lead the significant achievement and contribute to global vertebrate issue to sustain Asia Vertebrate Species Diversity”, Assoc.Prof.Dr.Le Van An emphasized.
