The conference was attended by Mr. Le Van Anh – Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hue City; Mr. Nguyen Van Hung – Director of the Sub-Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health of Hue City; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Dung – Head of the Faculty of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine and Project Leader; Dr. Nguyen Hai Quan – Deputy Head of the Faculty, representatives of relevant agencies, and 50 farming households from Dan Dien Commune and Kim Long Ward, Hue City.
In his remarks on the project outcomes, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Dung emphasized that “the success of the VietGAHP-compliant chicken farming model in Hue City not only demonstrates the University’s capacity to implement science and technology programs, but also affirms the practical value of research when effectively transferred to farmers. The model has helped improve household incomes, stabilize production, and promote safe and sustainable farming practices. HUAF will continue to work closely with local authorities to replicate and expand the model in the future.”

The project was implemented in the context where small-scale household poultry farming remains predominant, while the adoption of VietGAHP standards is still limited. In Hue City, where poultry farming plays an important role in local livelihoods, the project aimed to address common challenges such as disease risks, market fluctuations, and inconsistent product quality. Its objective was to develop VietGAHP-certified production zones for MD1.BĐ, MD2.BĐ, and MD3.BĐ chicken breeds, integrated with value chain linkages to enhance productivity, product quality, and economic value.

The project applied the VietGAHP Good Animal Husbandry Practices (Decision No. 4653/QĐ-BNN-CN), ensuring food safety, environmental protection, and animal welfare. Participating households received support for inputs, feed, vaccines, and technical training, and entered into production–consumption linkage contracts to secure stable market outlets. The project was implemented through close coordination among the University, agricultural extension services, and local authorities.
Results showed that three Minh Du chicken farming models of the Quang Loi Chicken Farming Cooperative Group, with a total scale of 24,700 birds, were successfully certified under VietGAHP standards. The models achieved a survival rate of 97.4%, an average market weight of 2.4 kg per bird, and 100% product off-take through linked consumption channels, resulting in an economic efficiency increase of over 16.9% compared to traditional farming practices.
The success of the project reaffirms HUAF’s commitment to sustainable agricultural development and the effective linkage between research and practice, while opening up opportunities to replicate the model in other localities in the coming period.
