Seminar on studies on “the land use and livelihood resilience in the face of growing dependence on mon-cropping of industrial tree plantations- a case in central Vietnam” and “Bio-indicators in folklore”
On September 8th, 2017, at Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry, Kyoto University, Japan organized a seminar on a study on "the land use and livelihood resilience in the face of growing dependence on mon-cropping of industrial tree plantations- a case in central Vietnam" and a study on “Bio-indicators in folklore”. This is a frequent activity in the framework of development collaboration between Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry (HUAF) and Kyoto University, Japan. The seminar attracted lecturers from the Faculty of Forestry and the Faculty of Land management and Agricultural environment of HUAF.
At the seminar, a study on the land use and livelihood resilience in the face of growing dependence on mon-cropping of industrial tree plantations- a case in central Vietnam presented by Minori Tokito, who is a researcher of Global Environment studies- Kyoto University. The objectives of the study were to clarify the actual situation of village’s livelihood by focusing on not only main occupation but small-scale activities at the household level; and to reveal the real tendency and problems of the village in the face of growing dependence on Acacia mono-cropping.
The second presentation was a study on bio-indicators in folklore conducted by Satoshi Asano. The study was widely used to estimate environment status in cultural meanings - a case study of Shiga Prefecture, Japan. (Bio-indicators in agriculture and Bio-indicators in science).
At the seminar, Assoc.Prof.Dr Le Van An- Rector of HUAF stated that HUAF had collaboration with Kyoto University for several past years through joint implemented projects funded by JICA. In addition, the two sides had collaborative development programs such as student and staff exchange programs, especially academic and experiences exchange through conferences, seminars. Furthermore, sustainable collaboration development of two sides was affirmed.
