The student exchange program between HUAF and Kyoto University is a longstanding initiative that has been regularly maintained over the years. Beyond serving as an academic bridge between the two institutions, the program provides a valuable opportunity for young people from Vietnam and Japan to strengthen friendship, learn from one another, and broaden their perspectives.
Throughout more than a week of activities, students from the two universities embarked on a memorable journey featuring field experiences, cultural exchanges, and explorations of the history and heritage of Central Vietnam. Highlights of the program included:
(1) Discovering the cultural identity of A Luoi: The delegation had an opportunity to learn about the distinctive lifestyles and traditional cultural practices of local ethnic minority communities, while admiring the spectacular natural landscapes of the mountainous A Luoi area.
(2) Exploring the Tam Giang Lagoon ecosystem: The Japanese students enthusiastically experienced the daily livelihoods of local communities in the lagoon area and explored one of the largest brackish-water lagoon systems in Southeast Asia.
(3) Exploring history in the Quang Tri Demilitarized Zone (DMZ): Field visits to historical revolutionary sites in Quang Tri provided the international delegation of lecturers and students with authentic and meaningful insights into Vietnam’s history of national struggle and its enduring aspiration for peace.
In addition to field trips, a highlight of this year’s program was the series of cultural exchange activities and opportunities to experience student life in the former imperial capital of Hue. The Japanese students immersed themselves in everyday life in Hue, attended classes alongside HUAF students, sampled local street food, and participated in various lively group activities. The warmth and hospitality of HUAF students helped quickly overcome language and geographical barriers, creating a friendly and closely connected atmosphere throughout the program.
The exchange program not only provided the Kyoto University delegation with memorable experiences of Vietnam and its people but also created a dynamic international exchange environment for HUAF students. Through these activities, HUAF students had opportunities to improve their foreign language skills, develop intercultural and international integration skills, and proudly introduce the beauty of their hometown and country to their international peers.
The 2026 Student Exchange Program concluded successfully, leaving lasting impressions on lecturers and students from both universities. This meaningful program further affirmed and strengthened the longstanding, sustainable, and friendly partnership between Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, and Kyoto University, Japan, while laying a solid foundation for continued cooperation in the future.
