The Centre for Climate Change Study in Central Vietnam (CCCSC established by Decision No. 1222/QD-DHH-TCNS, dated 30th December 2009, president of Hue University. The CCCSC is an autonomous organization operating under the auspices of the Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry. The center has the legal personality, has its own seal/stamp and bank account; organize and implement specification activities according to the general legality regulations, operation regulations of Hue University and the CCCSC.

2. ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND STAFFS

- Total number of researchers and officers: 18. In addition, the Center also has a strong group of collaborators who are knowledgeable and well trained in each specialization. These collaborators are mostly lecturers at Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry and they would involve closely in each specific project.
2.1. Functions
Research and training

  •  The CCCSC is the leading organization in Central Vietnam in the area of research and training relating to the impact of climate change and sea level raise.

  • Documentation of the existing results and experiences of climate change research of other countries globally in order to consultant to the process of establishment scenarios for Vietnam to adapt and mitigate negative impact of climate change and the rise of sea level in coastal area of Central Vietnam.

  • Provide and share information about the result of existing research, experience and scenarios of the impact of climate change and sea level rise to provincial and lower level authorities. Therefore, they can use these information sources as scientific foundation for further establishment the development strategies in term of population, infrastructure, food security, and good productions.

  • Provide training course to improve management skills and capacities in adaptation to climate changes of communities.

  • Take advantages of domestic and international funds to train and build up a well-educated human resource with more staff who obtained their own master, doctorate for Hue university of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University and other coastal provinces in Central Vietnam.

  • Play as a center-based for staff of Hue university and other central provinces approach and share the result of their results and experiences with other scientists in the regions and international about mitigation and coping with the damages caused by climate changes.

  Technical consultant services

  • Conducts classes as per requested to foster and improve professional capacities for governmental officers in fields of climate change, natural resources and environment. Cooperation with other training centers and universities to conduct requested classes to train lecturers and technical staff in fields of climate change, natural resources and environment for all provinces in Central and Central-highland Vietnam.

  • Provide scientific consultant services: technical transfers relating to climate change, natural resource and local environment.

  • Stakeholder consultants (government, NGOs, local residents, ect.,.) to choose appropriate models for adaptation in agricultural areas.

  • Provide consultant services in final evaluation of effectiveness projects, which related to climate change.

2.2. Tasks

  • Conduct research for climate change adaptation and mitigation;

  • Provide short training course relating to climate change;

  • Establish and develop networking  to share and exchange information in climate change, such as organizing seminar, workshop and study tours;

  • Provide consultant services in many areas, especially in sustainable development of agriculture and forestry.

 3. ESTABLISHMENT AND DEVELOPMENT

The Centre for Climate Change Study in Central Vietnam (CCCSC), builds on the experience of the SIDA/SAREC-supported Project on Sustainable Rural Development. The newly established CCCSC aims at carrying out a range of climate change adaptation and mitigation studies in agricultural and forestry areas in Central Vietnam.

  • High Conservation Value Forest (HCVF) assessment at Duong 9 Forest Company, towards obtaining FSC certification, 2014

  • Pre-assessment, Social impact assessment and HCVF assessment at Tien Phong forest company, towards obtaining FSC certification, 2015.

  • Consultant and technical support to implement the betterment forest management practices, step out to achieving FSC certification, WWF/GFTN, in an identified forest area in Quang Nam province.
