Prof. Makino Hirofumi- President of Okayama University visited and worked with HUAF

On September 15th, 2017, the delegates of Okayama University, Japan, led by Prof. Makino Hirofumi- President of Okayama University, visited and worked with Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry (HUAF). Participants from HUAF included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van An - Rector of HUAF; Assoc Prof.Dr Phung Thang Long - Vice Rector; Dr. Pham Huu Ty- Head of Science, Technology and International Cooperation Department, along with lecturers who are teaching in Okayama programs at Hue University. Furthermore, former students of Okayama University who are working at Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry were also at the meeting to greet the delegates.

Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van An- Rector of HUAF, warmly welcomed the President of Okayama University and the delegates to visit and work with HUAF. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van An said that during over 10 years of cooperation with Okayama University, many staff and lecturers of HUAF had studied and graduated from Okayama University. Currently, they have been working at HUAF and at some provinces and cities in Vietnam. This is considered as the alumni network to connect and cooperate in education between Okayama University, Japan and Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van An hoped that HUAF would try its best in the process of teaching, as well as supporting the international postgraduate training programs between the two sides better.

At the meeting, Prof. Makino Hirofumi- President of Okayama University, thanked the University for welcoming the delegation. This was the first time that Prof. Makino Hirofumi had visited and worked with HUAF. Prof. Makino Hirofumi said that the purpose of the meeting would introduce and discuss the doctoral program that could be enrolled in the near future. This is seen as a plan within the framework of cooperation between Okayama University and Hue University. At the same time, lecturers of HUAF expressed their opinions about the time when they participated in studying in Master's programs at Hue University and Okayama University as well as their comments on appropriate duration of research for Master students and PhD students that would be enrolled in the upcoming time.

It is known that the International Master training program in "The sustainability of agricultural systems and the environment" between Hue University and Okayama University was set up in 2007 that has last for 10 years. So far, the program has enrolled 84 graduate students, including 56 students graduated and have received master’s degrees from the University of Okayama. The 11th course will be opened in September 2017. The program recruits about 8 excellent students from many universities in Vietnam. The duration of the master's degree is 2.5 years, in which the students will study one year program at Hue University and study Japanese in 6 months, and they will prepare the research proposal before studying at Okayama University, Japan for one year and will be granted a Master Degree by Okayama University.
