The workshop on current situation, orientation and solutions for sustainable development of Tam Giang lagoon

On April 3rd, 2017, Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry (HUAF) in collaboration with Department of Planning and Investment (DPI) of Thua Thien Hue province held a workshop on current situation, orientation and solutions for sustainable development of Tam Giang lagoon.
Participants in the workshop comprised of Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong - Deputy Chairman of Thua Thien Hue provincial People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hien - Head of Economic Department of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Phan Thien Dinh - Director of Department of Planning and Investment, along with leaders and staffs of DPI; Leaders of Departments in Thua Thien Hue province such as Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Department of Tourism; Leaders of coastal districts and Tam Giang lagoon; Leader of Hung Hau Corporation, Dong A Fisheries Investment Development Joint Stock Company; along with some scientists of Faculty of Fisheries of HUAF.
At the opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van An- Rector of HUAF said that this was the occasion for HUAF in collaboration with Department of Planning and Investment organized a workshop to consider the development of ecological area of Tam Giang Cau Hai. It was also an opportunity for scientists, managers and provincial leaders sharing the current issues on fisheries. The workshop would play an important part in the development of the university in particular and Thua Thien Hue province in general.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, in recent times, with efforts of all levels, branches, especially Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry had had many researches and connections with various enterprises. The main objective of the workshop was to create an opportunity for both HUAF and Department of Planning and Investment providing some basic orientations and solutions which were suitable for current natural conditions in order to meet requirements for aquaculture and to improve the livelihoods of people living in Tam Giang Cau Hai lagoon.

At the workshop, the participants presented the main topics such as: Overview of Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon, development orientation for 2017-2020; Situation and potential for development of fisheries in Tam Giang Cau Hai lagoon; Introduction of HUAF's scientific research in Tam Giang-Cau Hai lagoon; The status of ecotourism, community-based tourism in Tam Giang Cau Hai lagoon.
