The international workshop on “Land-use/Land-cover management with respect to ecosystem services”

At Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry (HUAF), the Faculty of Land Resources and Agricultural Environment of HUAF organized an opening ceremony of the international workshop funded by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The workshop will be a forum to discuss issues related to land use and land cover management in many different Asian countries. In addition, it is the basis of exchanging experiences and creates the connection among international scientists.

Participants included representatives, delegates from domestic and international units: Vietnam National University of Forestry; Bangladesh Agricultural University; University Malaysia Sabah; School of Energy and Environment, University of Phayao; Department of Plant Resources, Thapathali, Kathmandu, Nepal; College of Environment and Ecology, Xiamen University, China; VNU University of Science; Fenner School of Environment and Society, Australian National University; Vietnam National Satellite Center (VNSC), Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; Thainguyen University of Sciences; Georg-August-University Goettingen, Institute of Geography; HKBP Nommensen University, Indonesia; Faculty of Agricultural Technology-Gadjah Mada University; Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University (KU); Forum for Rural welfare and Agricultural Reform for Development; Ghent University, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Myanmar; Jenderal Soedirman University, Indonesia; Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Yangon, Myanmar; Vietnamese Science Committee; Trobenpos Vietnam; WWF Vietnam.

At the workshop, Assoc.Prof.Dr Le Van An- Rector of HUAF delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. Assoc.Prof.Dr Le Van An expressed his deep honor to thank distinguished guests, delegates, researchers, scientists to participate in the workshop. Assoc.Prof.Dr Le Van An stated that this was a good chance for lecturers, researchers and scientists who could exchange research results and new research methodology; and strengthen cooperation in scientific research in and outside the HUAF.

The workshop would focus on the following topics such as the role of local agro biodiversity to meet the challenges of food and nutrition security. Other sharing experiences and solutions in the management and protection of natural resources were also introduced. What is more, other entities were mentioned such as the concept of ecosystem services and its relevance for land-use planning and management; Sustainable forestry management; GIS and Remote Sensing for land-use /cover change analysis; Natural resource management in climate change context; Urban green areas and Sustainable management of wetland and coastal areas.

The workshop begins from September 24, 2017 to October 1, 2017.
