The Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry (HUAF), Vietnam and Leibniz University Hannover (LUH), Germany invite applications for the position of a
Associate Researcher (m/f)
The position is central for the implementation of a long-term data collection project financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG). In the context of this project, surveys of rural households and domestic migrants will be conducted annually in three provinces in Vietnam, namely Dak Lak, Ha Tinh and Thua Thien Hue.
Tasks
The Associate Researcher will lead the collection, cleaning and management of panel data from 2017 to 2018. Her/his tasks include the overall management of the National Research Data Collection Center at HUAF where she/he will be supported by an administrative assistant hired by the project. A major task is the organisation of village and household level surveys in the three provinces including the recruitment and training of enumerators. The Associate Researcher will cooperate closely with PhD students from Germany who will work with this project database. The Associate Researcher will also be responsible for the regular data transfer to the central database at the Institute of Development and Agricultural Economics at Leibniz University Hannover, Germany. She/he will also participate in supporting research activities in Vietnam using the panel data. The Associate Researcher may also occasionally give lectures in the academic course program of HUAF. She/he will be supported by senior researchers from LUH in all her/his activities related to the project.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess (or is about to finish) a PhD in agricultural economics, economics, other social sciences or agriculture with a strong socioeconomic orientation. Candidates with Master degree and exceptional experiences could be considered. Extensive field experience in the conduct of socio-economic household surveys in Vietnam is required. Experience of working abroad would be an asset. Excellent management and communication skills are a prerequisite. Profound knowledge in software for data base management (Access, CSPro, SQL, STATA, etc.) is a prerequisite. The base of the position is in Hue City but frequent travels to remote rural areas of all the three provinces are necessary.
Excellent knowledge of oral and written English including very good report writing skills is mandatory.
Offer
The Associate Researcher will be a temporary employee of HUAF with all associated social security benefits. The gross salary is 444 million VND per annum at start and can be complemented by performance-based bonuses. The salary is subject to a 10 % deduction following internal HUAF regulations in addition to income tax and social security payments. The initial appointment is for two years but can be extended for up to nine years, depending on performance and the extension of funding by the DFG. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Equally qualified candidates with disabilities will be hired preferentially.
